Dear Hunter,
As I am making your letter book for your birthday I am realizing that I didn't write very many letters this year. I hope that I wrote down everything I wanted to remember. You are such an amazing little boy. I want to remember it all.
You still try to snuggle every chance you get. When we do our reading lesson you sit so close you are practically in my lap! Most of the time I love it, but you are a really big guy these days! You grew over 4 inches this year. It's just insane.
Some days you don't eat a thing and then about once a week you wake up and you eat everything in the house.You would prefer to have juice and bars for every meal and would if I would let you. Your front teeth have been missing forever so you take bites out of the side of your mouth. The front two teeth are finally starting to pop out though! This is exciting for all of us because I would really like to see you use your front teeth again.
You love going to school. Everywhere you go you make a new friend. Right now you are taking arts and crafts, legos, and human body. You really love arts and crafts and human body. You are
n't super impressed with lego class. I love that you look forward to going to school! I bought you a new binder and a lunch box and it was like you won the lottery! I love how the simple things make you so happy.
You got glasses right after Christmas. That was really exciting for you. You just love wearing your glasses. You look super cute too. Russell got ahold of them and broke them! We have to have them fixed now and you are doing such a good job waiting patienlty for that to happen.

Kitten
Dear Kiddos,
We got a new kitten a few weeks ago. She is really cute! You were all so excited to pick her out and get her home. She was not as excited. She was scared crazy. In fact, we didn't see her for a good week unless I drug her out from behind the couch to eat or put her in her litter box. Slowly she came out though and each time gained a little courage. Now she walks around like she owns the place. She lets Russell drag her around all over the house. She never claws or bites him, just endures.
Last year in Kindergarten Connor and Hunter completed a unit on nocturnal animals. The two of them have been telling us all about how cats are nocturnal. She is, for sure, nocturnal. She wakes up in the middle of the night and sneaks into your bedroom. She bats at your legs and toes. If you roll over or move at all she pounces. It drives Kaylee insane. Every time she wakes Kaylee up we hear Kaylee crying "DADDY!!! The kitty won't leave me alone!" The first two weeks Daddy would run to her rescue, get the cat out of her bed, and tuck Kaylee back in. Then one night I hear Daddy yell from his bed, "KAYLEE JUST GET THE SPRAY BOTTLE!" I laughed so hard.
The kitty takes turns sleeping with you. She likes to get into each of your beds and snuggle with you while you're asleep. Daddy and I take pictures to show you in the morning and you are always so thrilled!
We named her Ditty because that's how Russell calls her. Hunter wanted to name her mittens and we obliged for a short time but Daddy and I couldn't get over the cuteness of Russell saying Ditty and so we slowly have switched her name.
Russell always knows where his Ditty is. She climbed into a box and I almost wrapped her up Christmas Vacation style but Russell kept opening the box until I realized she was in there. She got trapped in the closet and Russell showed us where she was to get her out.
It's been fun having a kitten. I love watching you take care of her and snuggle her. I love the way she makes you laugh. I love you.

Ball?!
Dear Russell,
You couldn't get cuter if you tried. My goodness. You are babbling up a storm and it is so cute. Your voice is just adorable. Seriously, I could gush over you for hours.
You love balls. It's all you want to talk about. It's the only thing you want to do. You are pretty incredible with a ball actually. You have great form, you can throw a spiral, and at only 14 months old you were kicking a ball. You can spot a ball anywhere around you within seconds. You watch football games with a look of awe and wonder on your face. You are trying to dribble a basketball right now. I'm sure you'll be doing that in the next few weeks since your siblings are starting basketball practice soon.
Sometimes you grab a book and just plop down on the couch and start reading to yourself. Again, adorable.
You are a little piggy. You love food! You eat so much. Although, I actually think you need it since your whole body is one big muscle! It's ridiculous how muscular your legs are! The other day I walked into the kitchen and you were doing squats. Just standing there squatting repeatedly and grunting. It truly looked like you were working out. I laughed pretty hard.
You still love my cookies. Tonight you ate at least three of them! The last one you played with because you were so full but you still wanted it in your hand.
You love hugs and kisses. You will give me one whenever I ask. Sometimes you just walk up and give one of your siblings a big hug. They eat it up. They will sit there and hug you for as long as you want. The longest hug I have seen was close to the 3 minute mark. You are a snuggle bunny for sure.
You say Mama so well now. You say it all the time and I just adore it. It is the cutest phrase in the world. You also say More, Water ball, touchdown, brother, Hunter, Connor, yes... I'm sure I'm forgetting some of your words but trust me they are all so sweet.
I love you little man. Thank you for being such a fun kid.

He wants a cake!
Dear Russell,
You are so adorable. I love watching you play. You are determined to learn how to jump right now. You practice over and over and over. I love how proud of yourself you get when you feel you've made progress.
You are ridiculously smart for a 15 month old! The other day you got your ball stuck between a bush and a garbage can. You couldn't reach it so you looked around, grabbed a piece of PVC pipe, and began trying to push it closer to yourself. Most kids your age would've just sat down and cried until someone came to help them.
The other day we were shopping and you saw a cake mix that you just had to have. You started pointing and saying "dat, dat, dat!"
I pushed the cart over to the side and you reached over and grabbed a box of confetti cake mix. You wanted me to make this so bad and I just kept forgetting. One morning you woke me up and as I was opening my eyes you were shoving the box in my face. Today I decided you'd waited long enough. As soon as I woke up we started making the cake. It was so fun. You loved every step of it. I think you enjoyed making it more than you liked eating it, but in your defense you had just had breakfast and you were pretty full! I should've made the cake in the evening because its going to be hard to beat that moment today, it was so fun.
I love you buddy! I love how we can do things together like making cake.

summer
Dear Bubbas,
Where did the summer go?!! It went so fast. I got a new job and have spent most of my computer time in August planning for my job and getting ready for home schooling a preschooler and two first graders. I wish I would've taken a few more time outs to write about our summer but here are the highlights....
1. We went to the beach with the Allen gang. It was super fun. We stayed in the same house as we did the last time we went and you were all thrilled because you love all the stairs in that house. You got to go clamming for the first time and had so much fun doing it!
2. We went to the beach with Gramma Darrlyn and Papa Steve. It was so relaxing. We spent so much time just relaxing on the beach and at the house. We stayed in a new house that had an incredible view of the ocean from the living room. We found lots of seashells on this trip. Connor found most of them because he was having so much fun looking for them. We also went to the aquarium in Seaside and had a blast feeding the seals.
3. We went to Silverwood with the Taylors. That was a blast! You kids loved every second of it!
4. We went camping with the Taylors. So many things on this trip that I want to remember. The way you guys roasted hot dogs and Kaylee kept grabbing them to see if they were hot regardless of how she kept hurting her hand, the swap meet, corn dogs and wagons, the way Leanne and I laughed until our sides hurt on more than one occasion, and my favorite moment... this conversation between Hunter and Clayton-
It was just Hunter and Clayton sitting around the campfire while all the other kids were picking berries. It was starting to get dark.
Hunter to Clayton- "It's getting dark. I'm getting worried that a monster will jump out of the woods at me."
Clayton- "No. Monsters aren't real. Bears are though."
I love you kids! I had such a great summer with you! Thank you for all the fun days, tiring days, whiny days, kid filled days. I will miss these one day.

1st trip to the coast
Dear Russell,
You went to Rockaway Beach for the first time this week. To say you loved it would be an understatement. When we first came up the hill and you had a good look of the Ocean you were so excited! You kept pointing at it and grunting. Daddy told you it was called the ocean and from then on you would point at it and say "shun, shun."
We couldn't let you walk in the sand if we wanted to get anywhere in a hurry because you would take a few steps and then just lay down and roll in it. Your face was covered in sand. I was so worried you would get sand in your eyes and get upset but no matter how much sand I wiped off your face you just kept sticking it back in the sand.
You loved throwing the mud, chasing the balls, and running like a wild man out in the breeze. It was super fun watching you enjoy every moment of it.
Tillamook Cheese Factory was a big hit too. We got you a sorbet cone and you gobbled it up! Daddy held it for you and you ate it down to the last little bite and almost took Daddy's fingers off trying to get it!
Daddy's favorite story of you from this week was when we buried you in the sand up to your chest. You had your arms out and there was a stick you wanted. You stretched your arms to get it and just barely tapped it to come a little closer. Daddy wanted to see if you could pull yourself out of the sand so he moved the stick further back. You looked up at him with a "are you kidding me!" look on your face. We were all giggling pretty hard.
I love you buddy. I can't wait to take you back.

1 going on 6
Dear Russell,
You are such a fun little boy! Most people think you are two years old the way you run around with all the other kids and the fact that you are a giant. You are scared of nothing!
Your first birthday was a lot of fun! I really wanted you to tear into your cake and go nuts. You didn't want your hands to get dirty. You were much happier with the cookie that I gave you. You love those cookies. I love how you love my cookies. It makes me want to just give you one all the time!
It was fun opening presents with you too. You took the time to look over every present that I was opening for you. It was adorable the way you inspected everything.
You loved the bounce house we had set up. I need to set that up more often because you had so much fun! We stopped setting it up because the other kids have almost outgrown it. We didn't realize you would love it so much.
You have the funniest little tantrums right now. You lean to the side and you stomp your feet in a quick circle. We laugh at you when you throw a tantrum and half the time you stop and laugh with us.
You are growing so fast. Every time I look at you I see a little boy where my baby use to be. I love you so much!
